Protest action in front of the Press Council
Baku / 22.07.20 / Turan: On July 22, a group of reporters and video bloggers held a protest in front of the building of the Azerbaijan Press Council.
It was timed to the National Press Day celebrated on July 22.
Reporters were holding white papers in their hands, chanting: "Journalism is not a crime", "Free media cannot be silenced!", "Aflatun Amashev resign!" etc.
Participants noted that the Press Council has never supported journalists who have been pressured for their professional activities. "But the most important thing is that when the Operational Headquarters under the Cabinet of Ministers announced a strict quarantine, the Press Council did not intercede for journalists who were not allowed to work freely," said one of the protesters.
The protesters also demanded a fair distribution of aid allocated to the media.
The participants of the action handed over blank sheets of paper instead of a statement of the action to the representative of the Press Council for transferring them to the head of the joint venture Amashev.
In turn, Amashev told Turan that the Press Council "deals with the problems of journalists, and as public organization the Press Council does not distribute aid to the media.
As for the question of the arrested journalists, the “Press Council is studying their cases,” Amashev said. — 06D0-
