Protest Action of Depositors of Closed Banks
Baku / 30.07.20 / Turan: A group of depositors of 4 closed banks, AtaBank, AGBank, Amrahbank and NBCBank, tried to hold a protest action in front of the Central Bank of the country on Thursday.
At the beginning of the year, the CBA warned the banks to stop accepting deposits, but they ignored this and continued accepting deposits for safekeeping. When the banks were liquidated, no one began to return money to the depositors. Citizens note that banks have issued contracts to them, where it is noted that their deposits are insured.
To settle the issue, the Cabinet of Ministers applied to the Constitutional Court with a request to interpret the legislation.
The Constitutional Court considered the issue on July 28, but the decision was not announced, and the protesters today demanded to inform them of the result of the process.
We live in a state governed by the rule of law, we believed the president. We were told not to keep the money at home, so we brought it to the banks. My deposit was insured, and now the money is not returned,” said one of the participants of the action.
The first deputy chairman of the CBA Alim Guliyev said that the Constitutional Court considered the issue. “Taking into account the holidays, no later than 10 days, the Constitutional Court will make a decision and it will be in favor of the citizens,” he said.
Depositors of Amrahbank, in turn, said that the question about this bank was not submitted to the Constitutional Court.
“The Central Bank and the Deposit Insurance Fund appealed to the Constitutional Court only about three banks, but four banks were closed. Our money disappeared at Amrahbank. Why are some of the depositors discriminated against? What is our guilt?
The police urged the crowd to disperse, and the action ended without incident. –21D-
