Public activist and member of the municipality want to sue
Baku/23.07.20/Turan: Vafa Nagi, a member of the municipal council of the village of Khol Garagashly of the Neftchala region (174 km south of Baku), was filed with a private criminal charge demanding that he be brought to justice on charges of defamation.
The plaintiffs are the head of the municipal council Alibala Salimov, artistic director of the house of culture Ilham Huseynov and employee of the house of culture Anar Abbasov.
A preparatory hearing on this case was scheduled for July 22 in the Neftchala District Court. Since Nagi was only notified of the trial on July 21st, she sent a fax to the court asking to postpone the trial.
“The statements of claim referring to my posts on facebook say that I allegedly damaged their business reputation, humiliated their dignity. Therefore, they demand to bring me under the Article 147.1, 147.2 (slander) and 148 (insult) of the Criminal Code,” the activist told Turan.
She is convinced that there are no grounds for her persecution. “In this way they want to intimidate me, to silence me. This is the initiative of the head of the city council,” said Nagi.
She stressed that the campaign against her began after she demanded from the head of the municipal council to report on the use of the property of the municipality.
Earlier, 60 residents filed a complaint against the head of the municipal council, demanding to investigate the facts of illegal lease of land plots and misappropriation of property of the municipality.-03I06-
