Punishment for domestic violence to be toughened in Azerbaijan
Baku/21.12.23/Turan: New penalties will be established in Azerbaijan for violations of legislation on domestic violence. This is reflected in the amendments to the Code of Administrative Misconduct, which were discussed in the Parliamentary Committee on Family, Women and Children Affairs. According to the current legislation, fines from 100 to 300 manats are provided for illegal economic restrictions and dependence on domestic grounds. The document also provides for the application of a fine from 300 to 500 manats for exerting psychological pressure or an intolerant psychological situation against another person.
According to the proposed innovations, if these offenses are committed repeatedly over the years, the fines increase will from 500 to 700 manats, or in the form of community service from 60 to 100 hours, or administrative arrest for up to 15 days.
Amendments are also proposed to the legislation providing for the creation of a monitoring group on the situation of domestic violence. These groups will include representatives of government agencies, NGOs, specialists and experts. Activists and independent experts note an increase in the number of cases of domestic violence in Azerbaijan, including murders on this basis. -16D-

Many, recognizing the futility of resistance, settle for inadequate monetary compensation for their irreplaceable property.
