REAL activist re-arrested for 30 days
Baku/15.08.22/Turan: Elnur Shahverdiyev, a member of the Republican Alternative Party (REAL), was re-arrested administratively for 30 days after serving the same term of punishment. His brother Ramin Shahverdiyev told Turan that Elnur was detained for the first time on July 14. Then, plainclothes men showed up at the bakery where he works, saying that there was a "complaint from a buyer." Elnur was thrown to the floor, tied up and taken away.
Further, the Astara District Court sentenced him to 30 days of administrative arrest “for disobeying the police,” the brother said. In his opinion, Elnur is being persecuted for posting on facebook, since after the detention, all his posts from May 25 to July 14 were deleted.
On August 14, the term of arrest expired, but the activist was not released. The Astara court again arrested him for 30 days, accusing him of drugs.
The REAL party condemned the arrest of Elnur Shakhverdiyev, saying that he was being persecuted for his critical posts on facebook.—06D-
