Restoration of the Baku Press Club
Baku/17.09.19/Turan: On September 17, was presented the website (pressklub.az) of the Baku Press Club, created in 1998, but was forced to cease its activities after 7 years.
The initiator of the revival of the Press Club, one of its founders and the head of the journalistic association "Yeni Nəsil" Arif Aliyev, said that the site is designed to unite and attract all healthy forces to cooperation.
The site is designed to inform, help, and unite all those who are somehow connected with the press. "It will be a kind of Asan Hidmet," he said.
The site will provide information on local and international legislation relating to the press, on the proposals of international structures for journalists, and the publication of foreign media about Azerbaijan.
According to Aliyev, the launch of the site is the first step towards the full restoration of the activities of the Baku Press Club. "We hope that other organizational issues regarding the premises will be resolved in the coming period," he said.
When asked by colleagues about financing, Arif Aliyev replied that at present a small amount of funding required the creation of a site. He expressed hope that in the future the activities of the Press Club will take place with the support and participation of international and local structures and the media.
In 1998, the Baku Press Club was founded by the "Yeni Nəsil" Association, Turan agency, the Zerkalo, Khalg, 525 and ANS TV newspapers.
A year later, ANS withdrew from the founders, followed by the Khalg pro-government newspaper.
A few years later, the Press Club was forced to cease operations due to financial problems and amid a lack of support from the authorities.-02B-
