Round table "Karabakh: peace or war"
Baku / 14.03.19 / Turan: A roundtable of the Solidarity Committee in the name of Peace and the Azerbaijan Committee of the Helsinki Citizens Assembly was held on the theme "Karabakh: peace or war" took place in the Azerbaijani National Committee of the Helsinki Civil Assembly (ANC HCA).
Participants discussed the prospects for Azerbaijan of each of the possible options.
In his opening remarks, the chairman of the ANC HCA, Arzu Abdullayeva, briefly recalled the losses and misfortunes of the initial stage of the conflict, when the death of the civilian population and the destruction of cities and villages were massive. She expressed serious concern about the fact that the propagandists were activating the start of a new war, pointing out that behind this phenomenon there are quite influential political and economic forces that expect new political and economic benefits for themselves from the escalation of armed conflict. She called for activists from the non-governmental sector to strengthen their activities in favor of a peaceful resolution of the conflict, focused on the possibilities of using the potential of the world to resolve the Karabakh conflict.
An expert of the ANC HCA Zardusht Alizade told about the activities of Armenian and Azerbaijani peacekeepers, educating their societies about the benefits of a peaceful resolution of the conflict based on the Aland example as the most successful model in conflict resolution in world practice, and as the most suitable for its application in the Karabakh context.
The EPNK activist Ahmed Alili spoke about the state and development trends of the peace negotiation process, emphasizing the importance of using the potential of a peaceful resolution.
Head of the Center for Humanitarian Studies Avaz Hasanov showed the fruit of joint Russian-Armenian-Azerbaijani cooperation - a documentary film "Parts of a Circle" about the initial stage of the armed conflict. He appealed to the participants to pay attention to the initial period of the conflict and compare it with the current dynamics of development of events.
B discussions on the use of the potential of the world to resolve the conflict were made by N. Jafarov, S. Gojamanly, S. Bananyarly, R. Huseinova, M. Rahimli and others. - 0-
