Second Poisoning of Cotton Growers in Imishli
Baku / 21.06.18 / Turan: Today, on June 21, another mass poisoning occurred in one of the cotton fields in the village of Aranyli, Imishli region of Azerbaijan. This is the fourth mass poisoning in the last 10 days and the second one in Imishli.
Local residents told Radio Liberty that the ambulance was called to the scene, but the poisoned were not taken to the Central Hospital.
The Imishli district central hospital was told that the poisoned were placed in hospitals in the villages of Aranly and Gizilkend.
"I cannot say for sure, two days before the incident, some of the poisoned patients were treated at the Central Hospital in a stationary state, and there are other patients. A team of doctors and nurses was set up, which went to rural hospitals. The head doctor is also there," the hospital said.
The representative of the Executive Power of the Imishli district in the village of Aranli Alihumbat Agishev denied the information: "There was nothing like it, two or three people were sick two days ago, they probably talk about it. But they recovered."
The chairman of the municipality of Aranly, Nadir Veliyev, said that in the cotton fields there was no dangerous situation. Today he said in Aranli that the cotton field had worsened the well-being of the workers.
"There were cases of dizziness and nausea, and all of them were taken to the village clinic, where they were examined. In local medical facilities there are all conditions for treatment, but they did not need it. There was nothing dangerous," he said.
According to the Mayor, 23-24 people complained about their health. At the moment, they all feel good.
The head doctor of the Imishli district hospital, Jasur Pashayev, did not want to talk about this.
However, according to local residents, the police have already arrived in the village. They do not consider the refutation of information about poisoning justified. -0-

The closure of Azerbaijan's land borders was discussed during the parliamentary session on November 25. While the government’s decision cites the coronavirus pandemic as the main reason—despite the World Health Organization declaring its end last year—Zahid Oruj, Chair of the Human Rights Committee in the Milli Majlis, pointed to other factors. He stated, "Opening the borders could result in an influx of hundreds of thousands of non-Azerbaijani refugees due to the Russia-Ukraine war. Additionally, in Iran, many are prepared to cross into Azerbaijan to safeguard their lives and assets amid military strikes. Such waves of refugees could lead to humanitarian, social, and cultural clashes that may threaten political stability."
