Storm, hail and downpours caused damage to western regions of Azerbaijan
Stormy wind, heavy rain and hail caused significant damage in the western parts of Azerbaijan last day. Gazakh, Tovuz and Shamkir regions, as well as the city of Ganja were most affected.
Strong winds felled perennial trees and tore off roofs of houses. In a number of places, large trees fell on cars and residential houses, there are victims.
Stormy winds and heavy rains also hit the Karabakh zone and in particular the city of Shusha.
In the Greater Caucasus region, hail the size of a hen's egg fell in Gabala.
Rainstorms with gale force winds also hit low-lying areas, including Kurdamir and Ujar.
Video footage from social networks shows the scale of the natural cataclysm.
Officials have not yet reported on the extent of the damage caused by the disaster.

Today, the Supreme Court of Azerbaijan has not satisfied the appeal of Asker Agazade, convicted in the case of the young gender-activist Senay Yagmur. The accused asked for an acquittal, Zibeyda Sadygova, the lawyer of Yagmur told Turan. An avalanche triggered by short-term heavy rains has descended onto the Ismayilli-Lagich highway, causing significant disruption and isolating several villages. The incident occurred on a stretch of road passing through a scattered area, where large rocks, debris, and mud from the mountains fell onto the highway, completely halting vehicle movement in both directions.
