Супруга политзаключенного заявило о необоснованном затягивании судебного процесса над ним
Baku/03.05.23/Turan: The trial of activist Samir Ashurov, who was arrested after being expelled from Germany unreasonably delayed, the wife Nurana Ashurova said.
"The trial of my husband began back in August 2022. Since then, the trial has been delayed. Each time the meetings are held after 3-4 postponements. The last meeting was held on February 8. Since then, there have been no hearings, and they have been postponed under various pretexts. So today the meeting did not take place, as it was stated? due to the absence of one of the judges," Ashurova said.
She believes that the reason for delaying the judicial investigation is the lack of reliable evidence of her husband's guilt.
"The prosecution's version is falling apart in court. The testimony of the so-called "victim and witnesses contradict each other. Apparently, the court does not know what to do and prefers to postpone making a decision in a "long box". However, as a result, my husband suffers, who did not commit the crime attributed to him and is unreasonably detained. He is being persecuted only for his opposition activities, participation in protest actions in Germany against the Azerbaijani government," Ashurova said.
*Samir Ashurov was expelled from Germany on March 29 of this year, and 20 days later was detained by the police in Baku. He was accused of stabbing a certain Elshan Nabiyev (Article 126.2.4 of the Criminal Code - Intentional infliction of serious harm to health from hooligan motives). He faces from 6 to 11 years in prison.
On July 21, Ashurov was charged under another the Article of the Criminal Code – 221.3 (hooliganism committed with the use of a weapon, or an object used as a weapon) of the Criminal Code.
Human rights activists recognized Ashurov as a "political prisoner", believing that the real reason for the persecution was participation in protests against human rights violations. ---30B03---

Baku, often called the "Caucasian Dubai," is increasingly known for systematic violations of residents' housing rights. During urban renovations and the construction of elegant new buildings, thousands of families in Azerbaijan’s capital have been unlawfully deprived of their homes. Many, recognizing the futility of resistance, settle for inadequate monetary compensation for their irreplaceable property. A minority, placing faith in the Housing Code, demand fair compensation from construction companies but often lose everything—both their homes and any form of recompense.
