The activist is not released from prison, despite the expiration of the term
Baku/21.09.19/Turan: On September 17, the period of administrative arrest of public activist Rafael Huseynzade, who was arrested for 15 days on September 2, expired. Despite the fact that 4 days have passed since the expiration of the period of arrest, he is not released from prison, said lawyer Javad Javadov.
On September 20, the Sumgayit Court of Appeal, presided by Elman Ahmedov, examined Huseynzadeh's complaint about the illegal arrest. At the same time, the presiding judge ruled that Huseynzadeh had already served his term and was at large (!). This court decision is posted on the judicial system website.
The activist"s father, Fizuli Huseynzade, said that in the Absheron court on September 3 he was told that his son was arrested for 30 days, although in the trial the judge announced his arrest for 15 days.
Attempts to get a comment in the judicial authorities on this case, did not give results. Rafael Huseynzadeh was detained by the police after complaining about police arbitrariness and held a picket in central Baku at the end of August. In response, the police accused him of hooliganism.
Prior to that, in January and March, Rafael twice held single pickets demanding the release of political prisoners, and was twice arrested in administrative order.
His father, Fizuli Huseynov, who also held solitary pickets in defense of political prisoners, was also arrested twice. -02D-
