Zamin Salayev
The arrested oppositionist is on hunger strike for 17 days
Baku/24.02.23/Turan: The chairman of the Salyan district organization of the Popular Front Party, Zamin Salayev, has been on hunger strike for 17 days.
Salayev's health deteriorated sharply and he began to bleed, Neymat Kerimli, who visited him on Friday, told Turan.
"Despite this, Salayev was not transferred to the sanitary part of the pre-trial detention center and he is not receiving medical care, and is still forbidden to communicate and meet with his family," he said.
On February 8, the Garadagh District Court of Baku arrested Zamin Salayev for three months. A criminal case has been initiated against him under the Article 221.3 of the Criminal Code (use of weapons against the victim). He faces up to 5 years in prison.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs claims that Salaev is suspected of stabbing a person.
However, Zamin Salayev stated in court that he did not attack anyone, but on the contrary defended himself from the attack. "When I was waiting for a taxi in Lokbatan, I was insulted by an unknown person and rushed with a knife. I realized that this was a provocation and tried to defend myself, and then pushed the attacker away and left the scene. A few minutes later, I was stopped by plainclothes policemen and taken to the Garadagh district Police Department, accompanied by 4 police cars," he told the judges at the Baku Court of Appeal on February 20.
The PFPA is sure that Salayev is being punished for sharply criticizing the authorities in social networks. ---02B---
