The authorities ignore the appeal to install a memorial plaque to M.E. Rasudzade
Baku/06.03.22/Turan: On March 6, 67 years ago, the founder of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (1918-1920) Mammad Emin Rasulzade died. Head of the public group "House-Museum of Rasulzade", prof. History Solmaz Rustamova-Togidi addressed the Azerbaijani public, recalling the public initiative to open such a museum in Baku, which was signed by more than a hundred public figures of Azerbaijan and other countries in December 2019.
She reports that the goal of the group “has not been achieved, we cannot achieve it. We have held a scientific conference and published a book-collection of articles on Rasulzade's heritage. But the goal of the group remains the opening of the House-Museum of the creator of the ADR"
Rustamova-Togidi writes: “In the last years of his life, M.E. Rasulzade lived in Baku with his family on Vorontsov Street, 15 (now Islam Safarli, 15). In the autumn of 1920, released from prison, he emigrated from this apartment to Turkey. Members of his family lived in this apartment until 1935.
On September 14, 2021, the initiative group sent an appeal to the head of the Executive Office of Baku, E. Azizov, with a request to install a memorial bas-relief on the wall of this house. Received notification of the delivery of this appeal to the addressee. According to the existing rules, the answer should have been received within a month. But even after additional inquiries, there is no answer. Two months later, he was privately explained that it would be better to send the appeal to the Prime Minister or the First Vice-President of Azerbaijan.
On November 12, 2021, public figures turned to Mehriban Aliyeva. A few days later, the Presidential Administration called them and clarified the address of the house where Rasulzade lived. The public cheered. But it's been 4 months and no response.
Solmaz Rustamova-Togidi reports that on December 19 she clarified and found out that M. Aliyeva was not informed about the appeal.
She believes that the reason for such an attitude of the authorities is the unwillingness of official circles to recognize the nationwide respect for the memory of M.E. Rasulzade. She does not intend to follow the advice of some people, and achieve her goal in illegitimate ways.
S. Rustamova-Togidi intends to bring the situation with ignoring the appeal to the entire Azerbaijani society, so that the public speaks out, shows its support for the initiative to establish a memorial plaque on the house of M.E. Rasulzade.
Solmaz Rustamova-Togidi appeals to members of the Milli Majlis Rafael Huseynov, Ganira Pashayeva, Fazil Mustafa, Etibar Aliyev, asking them to express their opinion. The public group also expects expressions of attitude from more than 15 foreign diaspora organizations, compatriots living abroad, the Rasulzade family circle operating in Ankara.---0
