The Committee to Protect the rights Rufat Safarov considers him a political prisoner
Rufat Safarov is the voice of justice. He was arrested in order to intimidate society. This was the leitmotif of today's press conference of the Committee to protect the rights of Safarov. The Head of the Committee, the director Eldaniz Guliyev said that the trial of the former prosecutor was "a disgrace" in the history of jurisprudence. "None of the allegations have not been proven. The defendant and his lawyer was not even allowed to speak the last word," said his lawyers Behruz Bayramov.
Member of the Defense Committee, former deputy Matlab Mutalimli believes that Rufat Safarov made a "revolution" in the prosecutor's office by expressing open protest against the lawlessness in this system.
Lawyer Afgan Mammadov, Rufat Safarov called the arrest politically motivated to intimidate the rest of the discontented and not give them the opportunity to protest openly, he said.
Father of former prosecutor Eldar Sabiroglu confirmed his earlier statements that his son is pursued for the criticism against the leadership of the country and, in particular, the head of the presidential administration Ramiz Mehdiyev.
"I knew that I will be punished for it, but I could not imagine that the authorities would go to such baseness as the arrest of my son," said Sabiroglu. The Committee members noted that they would spare no effort to maximize awareness of the local and world community about the case, consider Safarov a political prisoners and will seek his release.
The former investigator of prosecutor's office of Zardab region, Rufat Safarov, was sentenced in September 2016 to nine years in prison on charges of taking bribes. Before that, he was fired from the prosecutor's office with the wording "for the violation of norms of behavior."
His father is a former activist of the ruling party, Eldar Sabiroglu, has long been a member of Parliament, and then the press secretary of the Ministry of Defense, after the dismissal began to criticize and blame Ramiz Mehdiyev for mediocrity, and considered him the main culprit of all problems of the country.-03В-
