The court denied the oppositionist parole
Baku/30.07.21/Turan: Today, the Khazar District Court of Baku, after repeated transfers, finally ruled on the appeal of a member of the Popular Front Party (PFPA) Agyl Maharramli. He asked for a mitigation of punishment in connection with serving 2/3 of the term of imprisonment. The activist asked the court to replace the remaining term with a suspended sentence. However, the court rejected Maharramli's appeal, citing a “negative characterization” from the jail administration.
The defense considers the decision unfair and intends to appeal. Recall that Maharramli was arrested in May 2018 in the so-called case of “illegal financing of the Popular Front Party”. He was sentenced to four years in prison. At the end of May, he was three years in prison. According to the law, he is eligible for parole. –06D-
