The court leaves the defender of the deceived residents of Turkan under arrest
Baku/22.04.21/Turan: On Thursday, the Khazar District Court of Baku rejected a petition to transfer a resident of the Turkan village Natig Magomedsoy under house arrest.
Magomedsoy's case was published after he tried to defend the rights of two elderly residents of the village. Local officials and fraudsters seized their lands by forgery, declaring the women themselves dead.
Magomedsoy found lawyers for them and took them to various government agencies, but they planted weapons and drugs on him and was arrested.
On April 12, 91-year-old Humara Shabanova and 81-year-old Azizakhanum Atayeva went on a hunger strike demanding the release of Magomedsoy and the restoration of their rights to land. They were joined by Magomedsoy's mother, Tamara Suleimanova.
They came to court today to express their support for Magomedsoy, and after the trial, they went to the district prosecutor's office. However, the Khazar district prosecutor's office opposed the transfer of Magomedsoy to house arrest, lawyer Javad Javadov said. The prosecutor's office motivated this by the fact that it had not yet received an expert opinion on the presence of drugs in the blood of the accused.
The defense considers this argument untenable, because enough time has passed since the examination (March 5) and the results should have been obtained.
Secondly, the result of the examination is not of decisive importance, because the accusation was brought forward in possession of drugs for the purpose of sale. Nevertheless, the court took the side of the prosecutor's office.
The defense believes that Magomedsoy is being persecuted precisely for his social activities, and he intends to appeal the decision to refuse to transfer him to house arrest. –06B-

Baku, often called the "Caucasian Dubai," is increasingly known for systematic violations of residents' housing rights. During urban renovations and the construction of elegant new buildings, thousands of families in Azerbaijan’s capital have been unlawfully deprived of their homes. Many, recognizing the futility of resistance, settle for inadequate monetary compensation for their irreplaceable property. A minority, placing faith in the Housing Code, demand fair compensation from construction companies but often lose everything—both their homes and any form of recompense.
