The Court of Appeal left Eldar Hasanov in custody
Baku/05.04.22/Turan: On April 5, the Baku Court of Appeal rejected the appeal of the former Azerbaijani ambassador to Serbia and the country's ex-prosecutor general Eldar Hasanov, who was sentenced to 10 years in prison on charges of economic crimes.
Hasanov reiterated his innocence and the ordered nature of his case, his lawyer Javad Javadov told Turan. The Court of Appeal also rejected the claims of Hasanov, his three children and other relatives for the confiscation of property.
Eldar Hasanov was arrested by the State Security Service in July 2020 at the same time as several other employees of the Consular Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In January of this year, the Baku Serious Crimes Court found him guilty under Article 179.3.2 (misappropriation and embezzlement), 193-1.3.2 (legalization of proceeds from crime) 308.2 (abuse of power resulting in grave consequences) 308-1.1 (not targeted use of budgetary funds) and 313 (official forgery) of the Criminal Code and sentenced to 10 years in prison.
It is noteworthy that three other high-ranking employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, arrested at the same time as Hasanov, accused of embezzlement of a similar scale, were very soon released from custody and subsequently sentenced to a suspended sentence.
Hasanov himself stated in court that he was the victim of intrigues against him by members of the presidential administration.-0-
