The Court of Appeal upholds the convictions against Ilham Amiraslanov
Shirvan’s Court of Appeal today upheld the decision of the Sabirabad District Court of September 13, to imprisonment for two years, Ilham Amiraslanov, civil society activist of "Kura", convicted for illegal possession of weapons (Article 228.1 of the Criminal Code.)
The hearing was held in Baku, and this decision testifies the fabrication of the case, said the lawyer Samir Isayev.
Human rights defender and his witnesses in court said again that the weapon was planted him, and under torture he was forced to confess. Doctors have also confirmed that Amiraslanov’s two ribs were broken and his eardrum was damaged.
Earlier, on January 22 the Committee on Legal Affairs and Human Rights of PACE included Amiraslanov into the list of political prisoners in Azerbaijan.
Coordinator of "Kura" staff, Oktay Gyulalyev, called the court decision "politically motivated", adding that the staff will try to obtain his release.
