The court refused to mitigate the punishment of the PFPA activist
Baku / 12.08.20 / Turan: On August 12, the Garadagh District Court of Baku rejected an appeal by a member of the Youth Committee of the Popular Front Party, Orhan Bakhyshli, on parole, reported PPFA.
Bakhyshli was arrested in May 2018 and charged under Article 234.4.3 (drug trafficking on a large scale), according to which the court sentenced him to 6 years in prison.
The Supreme Court later reclassified the charge to a milder article - 234.1 and reduced the sentence to three years in prison. In connection with the expiration of more than 2/3 of the sentence, he applied for release on parole.
However, the court substantiated its refusal to negatively describe the administration of colony no.14.
It says that Bakhyshli “is not satisfied with the sentence, does not repent of the crime he has committed”, is “insincere” towards the employees of the institution and other convicts, and therefore it is “inexpedient” to release him on parole.
Bakhyshli was recognized by human rights activists as political prisoners. — 06D-

In the stillness of New Year’s Eve, as fireworks lit up the sky over Zagatala, Azerbaijan, a much grimmer scene unfolded. Around 15 stray dogs, accustomed to gathering at the Danachi landfill on the outskirts of the city, were shot by unknown assailants. The timing, coinciding with the fireworks, likely masked the sound of gunfire, ensuring that the heinous act went unnoticed until dawn.
