The court rejected the petition on the case of "illegal financing of the PFPA"
Baku/07.01.18/Turan: A preparatory meeting was held today in the so-called criminal case "On illegal financing" of the PFPA in the Baku Serious Crimes Court.
Three activists of the Popular Front Party appeared before the court: Agil Maharramli, a member of the party"s presidium, Babek Hasanov, head of the Narimanov district department, Ruslan Nasirli, an activist of the youth committee, and Saledamli, the former head of the Gadabey region, and his nephew Vidadi Rustamli.
On May 26, 2018, the country's Prosecutor General"s Office announced their arrest on charges of "illegal financing" of the PFPA. The arrested were accused of illegal business, money laundering, criminally obtained, etc. PFPA denied the charges of receiving illegal funding. All those arrested were recognized by human rights activists as political prisoners.
Today"s meeting was chaired by the judge Eldar Ismailov. During the meeting, lawyer Ilaha Hasanova petitioned to exclude from the case file all the protocols signed by the lawyer appointed by Saleh Rustamov from the state. She indicated that this lawyer was appointed in violation of the law.
Javad Javadov, the lawyer of Babek Hasanov, petitioned to release from the cage-aquarium all the accused, because their presence there makes it difficult to protect.
In addition, he petitioned to discontinue the criminal proceedings against him in view of the absence of corpus delicti in Maharramov"s actions.
What the investigation represents as "dirty money" is, in fact, party membership fees are not tax liable by law.
Agil Laidjev, Agil Maharramov"s lawyer, also stated that there is no corpus delicti in the case file. A sign of money laundering is a criminal source of money. In this case, in the country (Russia) from where the money was sent, there are no charges against defendants.
Agil Maharramov refused the services of a lawyer appointed by the investigation at the beginning of the investigation. According to him, that lawyer did not respond to his complaints of torture.
After the meeting, the court decided to reject all petitions and schedule substantive hearings at 2:30 pm on January 15. -21С-
