The court ruled much shorter term to the former officers of the Ministry of National Security than the prosecutor asked
Baku/11.10.22/Turan: Today, the Baku Military Court passed a sentence to another group of former high-ranking officials of the abolished Ministry of National Security of Azerbaijan.
The former head of the Main Directorate of Military Counterintelligence of the Ministry of National Security, Nizami Shirinov, was sentenced to eight years in prison, the head of the division of this department, Eljan Abdullayev - to six years in prison, and operative officer Nadir Nazirov - to four years in prison.
With regard to another employee of the Ministry of National Security, Elman Tairov, at the proposal of the prosecutor, the court terminated the proceedings due to the expiration of the criminal case. Earlier, the state prosecutor proposed to sentence Shirinov to 12 years in prison, Abdullayev and Nazirov to 11 years in prison. The court also decided to deprive Shirinov of the rank of Major General and confiscate his real estate worth 180,000 manats. Also, by a court decision, all convicts are deprived of orders and medals.
Shirinov was arrested in April last year on charges of extortion through threats, legalization of money and property obtained by criminal means, bribery under aggravating circumstances.
Abdullayev, Tairov and Nazirov were charged under the Article 341.2.3 (abuse of power). They had taken a written undertaking not to leave. It should be noted that the Ministry of National Security was liquidated in 2015, however, these persons were brought to justice only in April 2021. --06D--
