The court trial began in the case of Azad Hasanov
Baku / 11.02.19 / Turan: On 11 February the Baku Serious Crimes Court held a preparatory meeting in the case of Musavat party activist Azad Hasanov, who is accused of drug trafficking on a large scale.
During the meeting, the defense petitioned to change the preventive measure to house arrest, Musavat party reported.
He said that there is no reason to believe that Hasanov will be hiding from the judicial investigation.
However, the state prosecutor opposed the petition, and the judge rejected it.
Court hearings on the merits are scheduled for February 25.
Fearing reprisals, Hasanov emigrated to Lithuania in 2013.
On October 10, 2018, due to the serious health of his father, he arrived in Baku to visit him. The next day, Hasanov was detained by persons in civilian clothes.
On October 12, he was charged under the Article 234.4.3 (drug trafficking on a large scale) of the Criminal Code. A court decision against him was chosen as a preventive measure in the form of an arrest for a period of 4 months.
Human rights activists recognized Hasanov as a political prisoner. -06D--
