
The Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (NAR) the family of the convicted businessman Muhammad Gurbanov, was returned his car and three mobile phones confiscated
during the investigation period.
Gurbanov and his son-in-law and assistant Nadir Mammadov were beaten on December 8 at the
customs at "Sadarak" point, which came to take their cargo, detained a day earlier by the customs officers. They were detained because they refused to pay a bribe to customs officers. Despite the fact that Gurbanov and Mammadov were beaten, they were arrested and 13 February and respectively sentenced to 4 years and 5 years in prison on charges of resisting customs and hooliganism.
Gurbanov’s daughter and Elnur Mammadov’s wife Elnura Gurbanova told Turan that today the Sadarak police returned the cars Ford Tranzit (cargo) and Toyota Kamri confiscated during the investigation. When they drove 100 meters away from the Sadarak Police Station, Toyota engine caught fire and they could hardly put fire out.
" At the automobile service station, we were told that the engine is covered either with sand or small scraps of metal. There were not documents for imported food products from Turkey, driving license, insurance contract in the cars. Three mobile phones returmed by police weealso out of order," said Gurbanov.
Gurbanov’s family bought “Toyota Kamri” only eighteen months, ago and has not had time to repay the loan. The insurance company refused to pay the insurance, stating that they are not responsible for any problems with the engine. "The government continues to do harm our family. They have not returned us goods seized at the border, and half of goods were damaged," said Gurbanov.
According to her, the total amount of cargo was detained about 9,000 manat.
The Interior Ministry of NAR, without any explanation and justification banned travel of Togrul Abbasov to Turkey; he is another son-in-law of Gurbanov, who goes to Turkey to bring goods for sale. They want to deprive out family of livelihood. In addition, we have to repay the loan for the car," said Gurbanova.
According to her, despite numerous complaints to the authorities of Azerbaijan and the NAR, the family has not received any responses. The family also can not get a copy of the judgment to file an Appeal Court.—06B--
