The health of Bakhtiyar Hajiyev who continues a hunger strike worsened
Baku/12.01.23/Turan: Public activist Bakhtiyar Hajiyev continues his hunger strike in the Baku pre-trial detention center N1 for the 4th day. Lawyer Fahraddin Mehdiyev told Turan that Hajiyev's health worsened on Thursday. HIs blood pressure dropped to 86/60, the pulse weakened and he lost a lot of weight.
“The previous 14-day hunger strike also affected hius health. So, during today's meeting, Bakhtiyar's head was spinning,” the lawyer said.
He also said that on January 12, the pre-trial detention center received a court decision to lift the ban on telephone conversations and visits by Hajiyev with relatives.
The Public Relations Department of the Penitentiary Service also confirmed the information about Hajiyev's hunger strike . “He was placed in the sanitary and medical unit of the pre-trial detention center and is under the supervision of doctors,” the department said.
* Bakhtiyar Hajiyev was detained on December 9 on charges of hooliganism and contempt of court. On the same day, the Khatai District Court arrested him for 1 month and 20 days.
On December 15, Hajiyev went on a hunger strike demanding his release from custody. On the evening of December 28, he ended his hunger strike after persistent appeals from members of the public and family members. However, on January 9, Hajiyev resumed his hunger strike, after the appeal court once again rejected his arrest complaint. -03B-
