The Karabakh Committee supported the bill of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament
Baku/19.06.20/Turan: The Karabakh Public Committee issued a statement in connection with the upcoming discussion in the European Parliament of a resolution on the Eastern Partnership countries.
The statement said: “The Karabakh Committee states that the Azerbaijani society is closely following the discussion of the bill, which establishes the principle of unconditional recognition of the internationally recognized borders of the Eastern Partnership countries - Azerbaijan, Georgia, Ukraine, Moldova, Belarus, and Armenia, in the European Parliament, the main body of the European Union. Approval of the bill in the text adopted by the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee would irreversibly strengthen the positive attitude of the Azerbaijani public opinion towards the Eastern Partnership Program, and under the influence of this public opinion, the Azerbaijani government would have to sign the program as soon as possible, including demands for democratic reforms.
In addition, the approval of the bill in the presented form would have a very serious positive impact on the preparation of the Azerbaijani and Armenian peoples for peace, the end of the long-running war, the formation of an atmosphere of peace, security, and cooperation between them and the region as a whole.
In this regard, the Karabakh Committee notes with concern that large-scale, multilateral efforts are being made by Armenia and the forces supporting its aggressive and occupying position in the direction of making changes to the document that would undermine the fair nature of the document in relation to Azerbaijan, including by blackmailing members of the European Parliament. The results of these disruptive and provocative efforts can play a catastrophic role in the continuation of relations between Azerbaijan and the EU, in the strategic interests of Azerbaijan and the European Union.
The Karabakh Committee hopes that the esteemed members of the European Parliament will make a fair decision on this issue, far from double standards, taking into account the rights of the Eastern Partnership countries equally and serving peace, security, and cooperation among peoples”.
The Karabakh Public Committee unites a number of public and political opposition figures of Azerbaijan who advocate for the settlement of the Karabakh conflict within the framework of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.- 0—
