Baku/14.05.21/Turan: On May 13, the Penitentiary Service of Azerbaijan transferred to a medical institution 6 people from among the convicts who have been on hunger strike for 4 days in the prison No. 13, former political prisoner Babek Hasanov said.

He told Radio Azadlig that two convicts, Mammadli Bahruz and Allahverdiyev Vali, who had been on a hunger strike to protest the suspension of postal services, were taken to a medical facility in handcuffs.

"The fact that both convicts are transferred to a medical facility while they are healthy, especially since this happens after a hunger strike, raises reasonable doubts in my mind. I believe that the creation of obstacles to contact with them by their families is done in order to buy time for the disappearance of traces of torture on the body of prisoners," he said.

Telnaz Allahverdieva, the mother of Veli Allahverdieva, confirmed to Radio Azadlig the information about the delivery of her son to a medical institution.

According to Allakhverdiyeva, the prison service told her that her son was taken to a medical institution because of a high temperature.

"They said they were taken to the hospital because the temperature was a little above 37. But I talked to my son this morning, and he didn't tell me anything about his fever. He asked me if I would come today," she said.

Telnaz Allahverdiyeva noted that, although she asked, she was not allowed to talk to her son on the phone.

"They said that we will take a test for the coronavirus, and as soon as he leaves the treatment facility, we will give you the opportunity to talk to him. If the test is negative, we will return him to prison. And I said that I would come every day until I was allowed to contact my son,” she said.

Allahverdieva also said that her son is not on a hunger strike.

Bahruz Mammadli's relatives also said that his friends had informed him about his delivery to a medical institution, but they could not clarify this information yet.

It was not possible to find out the attitude to the penitentiary service on this issue.—0—
