The police disrupted the May Day rally of youth
Baku/01.05.22/Turan: A group of activists of the youth Movement "Democracy 1918" gathered on May 1 for a rally on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity of Workers near the monument to the "Free Worker" in the Nizami district of Baku.
As a member of the board of the movement Afiyaddin Mammadov stated,
in Azerbaijan for many years the concept of "workers' rights" has been forgotten and the day of May 1 is not celebrated.
“But, we decided to break this “tradition” and loudly declare the rights of the exploited. Workers in Azerbaijan are mercilessly exploited. For many years, no one protested this. But now the situation is changing. An example of this is the recent protests of food delivery couriers
"Wolt" and "Bolt Food". They demanded an increase in their wages and ensuring the safety of couriers,” Mammadov said at the action.
The protesters unfurled a banner on which was written the slogan "End of Exploitation!" against the backdrop of a collage of Wolt and Bolt Food motorcycle couriers.
They began to chant the slogans “Yes, live the working people!”, “Yes, live May 1”, “End of exploitation!” and etc.
However, at that moment, persons in civilian clothes attacked the protesters, tearing the poster from them.
Seven protesters were taken to police stations. An hour later, they were all released without taking any reprimand measures. -30V06-
