The prosecutor proposed to soften the punishment to a group of convicts in the "Ganja case"

Baku/03.08.19/Turan: The prosecutor of the Court of Appeal asked to reduce the sentence to another group of seven people convicted in the "Ganja case", Turan was told by human rights activist Ogtay Gyulalyev.

In particular, the state prosecutor proposed to reduce the sentences to 2-4 years, and convicted Elvin Aliyev to reduce the punishment to 1 year of imprisonment.

"This means that at the next meeting he may be released. I hope that other convicts in the Ganja case very soon will be freed," said Gyulalyev.

Seven people, including Yavar Ismailzade was convicted by the court of first instance for nine years in prison, Zabil Mamedov - to 8.5 years, Isa Maharramzade - to 8, Alim Yusifov -to 7.5 Ganbar Garazade - to 7.5, Elvin Aliyev and Aydin Rustamov - to six years.

Gyulalyev noted that on August 1, the state prosecutor proposed essentially reduce the term for another group of convicts of 11 people also persons involved in the Ganja case.

"In reality, this is a victory for civil society, democratic camps We demand freedom for all political prisoners, including "prisoners of Ganja events", said Gyulalyev, recalling that for many months activists made public the facts of torture of those arrested, falsification of criminal cases, supported the protest actions of mothers of the accused.
