The Supreme Court dismissed the complaint of Ikram Ragimov
Baku / 18.12.19 / Turan: Today the Supreme Court of Azerbaijan rejected a cassation appeal by the editor of the reallig.info website, Ikram Rahimov.
His relatives told Turan that the editor asked the Supreme Court to stop his criminal prosecution on justifiable grounds.
Rahimov does not agree with this decision and intends to continue legal measures to restore his rights.
Rahimov was arrested in October 2018 a few hours after the publication of an open letter criticizing Ali Hasanov, the assistant to the head of state.
On June 12, 2018, Rahimov was sentenced to 5.5 years in prison. In protest, he began a hunger strike, which he stopped on the 30th day - September 5th.
On September 18, the Court of Appeal confirmed Rahimov’s guilt of extortion by means of threats, but by applying article 62 of the Criminal Code (the imposition of a lower sentence prescribed by law), he reduced the prison term to 3 years.
A number of international journalistic organizations condemned a sentence passed to Rahimov.-06D-
