The Supreme Court dismisses the appeal of Anar Mammadov
On Tuesday, November 11, the Supreme Court, under the chairmanship of Gulzar Rzayeva considered the cassation appeal of the convicted head of the Elections Monitoring and Democracy Studies Center (EMDS), Anar Mammadov and the convicted with him - Bashir and Elnur Mammadov Suleymanli. The complaint was filed to address the preliminary hearing of the Baku Court of Appeals dated August 22, dismissing the complaint with partial trial. However cassation appeal was rejected.
*Anar Mammadov was sentenced to 5.5 years of imprisonment, and the executive secretary of the NGO Bashir Suleymanli - 3.5 years. For the same period was conditionally sentenced the head of the Public Association for International Cooperation Volunteer Elnur Mammadov. They were found guilty of tax evasion, illegal business, assignment and others. Anar Mammadov declared Amnesty International “prisoner of conscience.” In late September, he was awarded the prize named after Vazlav Havel. -S06-
