Baku/09.02.23/Turan: On February 9, the Supreme Court, chaired by Ilgar Gulidjev, considered the cassation appeal of the activist of the Ganja branch of the Popular Front Party Shahin Hajiyev.
The Supreme Court upheld the decision of the Court of Appeal, leaving the activist in custody, Turan was told in the PFPA.
Hajiyev informed the Supreme Court in advance that he was refusing lawyers and would defend himself. However, his request was not granted and he was not brought to court.
The activist was detained in the fall of 2021 in Ganja, and on March 31, 2022, the Ganja Serious Crimes Court sentenced him to 6 years in prison, finding him guilty under the Article 234.4.3 (large-scale drug trafficking) of the Criminal Code.
Hajiyev denied the accusation. Rufat Safarov, the head of the human rights organization Liniya Zashchita, who observed the process, said that Hajiyev's guilt was not proven during the trial. Human rights activists recognized Hajiyev as a political prisoner. ---03В06---

The court ordered the property be returned to its rightful owner, Samaya Aliyeva. However, the Ministry of Justice intervened, citing a presidential decree from July 1, 2004, which approved a state program for improving the living and working conditions of refugees. Under this directive, refugees without alternative housing cannot be evicted until they are provided with a replacement residence by the Executive Authority.
