The tanker “Shovket Alekperova” is left in Istanbul
Baku/25.09.20/Turan: The senior assistant to the captain of the "Shovket Alekperova" tanker, owned by Palmali, has started a hunger strike. The reason is not getting wages for 13 months.
The tanker "Shovket Alekperova» under the flag of Malta has been in the roadstead of the port of Istanbul since May. Two citizens of Russia (the captain and the first officer), as well as 10 citizens of Azerbaijan remain on board the ship. Another Russian who worked as a cook on the tanker recently left the ship, Russian media reported.
According to the captain of the vessel Vadim Kayuchkin, the tanker was actually abandoned by the owner.
In turn, Palmali spokesperson Mahmoud Imansoy told local media that the tanker crew would be changed in the near future.
The owner of Palmali, Azerbaijani businessperson Mubariz Mansimov, was arrested in Turkey in March 2020, accused of having links with the anti-government organization FETO. As a result, Mansimov's business suffered greatly.
“Palmali”, founded in 1997, owns 170 vessels and is mainly engaged in the transportation of oil.
Before his arrest, Mubariz Mansimov had a capital of $ 1.7 billion and was the seventh richest man in Turkey.
