There are 127 political prisoners in the new list of the Working Group

Baku/20.02.19/Turan: The working group on drawing up a single list of political prisoners published their updated list. On the basis of the received documents, the monitoring of trials and surveys, the Working Group confirmed the presence in the country today of 127 persons arrested for political reasons. Cases of another 54 people remain under monitoring. After the publication of the previous list in September, one person was transferred to the list of political prisoners. The monitoring included 51 prisoners arrested in connection with the assassination of the former head of Ganja Elmar Veliyev on July 3, 2018 and the killing of two police officers in this city on July 10.

The ascertains the reasons for the arrest of these persons, among which the violation of the presumption of innocence by state agencies is indicated, the failure to provide family members with information about their fate within 9 days. According to investigators, the events of July 10 were riots, but this was not confirmed by video recordings and other evidence. At the same time, law enforcement agencies used excessive force in the subsequent operations and in the results, killing six people. The trial of the accused takes place in a half-closed mode, journalists are required to be accredited, and they are not allowed to take notes during meetings or to remove journalists from the hall. 127 political prisoners are classified in the following categories.

1) "Journalists and bloggers" - 9 people, including Nijat Aliyev, Araz Guliyev, Rashad Ramazanov, Seymour Hazi, Fikret Faramazoglu, Elchin Ismayilli, Mehman Huseynov, Afgan Mukhtarly and Zia Asadli.

"Poet" - Tofig Hasanli

"Human Rights Defender" - Aliabbas Rustamov.

"Political and social activists" - 18 people, including Ilkin Rustamzade, Asif Yusifli, Fuad Gahramanli, Gias Ibrahimov, Bayram Mammadov, Elgiz Gahraman, Fuad Ahmadli, Gezal Bayramli Alikram Khurshudov, Orhan Bahyshly, Mirfezulla Seidov, Saleh Rustamov, Vidadi Rustamli, Agil Maharramov, Babek Hasanov, Ruslan Nasirli, Azad Hasanov, Abulfaz Sadigbeyli.

"Believers" - 67 people, including those convicted by the Nardaran events, the leader of the Muslim Unity Movement Taleh Bagirzade, arrested along with the leader of the Islamic Party Movsum Samedov, the theologian Abgul Suleymanov, etc.

Thee persons serving a life sentence in the case of the 1995 OPON rebellion, including Elchin Amiraslanov, Arif Kazymov, and Safa Poladov.

Another 14 people convicted in connection with social protests, including one for the Ismayilli events of 21013, 3 for the Mingachevir events of 2015, and 10 for the events in Siyazan in 2016.

The list of political prisoners includes two former state officials - ex-Minister of Health Ali Insanova and former investigator of the prosecutor's office Rufat Safarov.

In the category of "political hostages" 4 people - brother-leader of the Popular Front Party Ali Kerimli Elnur Seyidov, nephew of the former rector of the "International University" Elshad Abdllaeva - Mubariz Abdullayev, the brother of opposition journalist Natig Adilova (located in the political emigration) - Murad Adilov and son-journalist Turkel Azertyurkya (located in political emigration) - Emin Sagiyev.

Another 8 political prisoners are convicted together with Said Dadashbeyli, on charges of forcibly changing the constitutional order.

After September 1, 2018, 4 people were released, including Mikayil Idrisov and Emil Mokhbaliyev (convicted in the case of Said Dadashbeyli), as well as adviser to the head of the Popular Front Party Mamed Ibrahim and religious activist Telman Shiraliyev.

The new three political prisoners are the activists of Musavat: Azad Hasanov, Abulfaz Sadigbeyli and Emin Sagiyev.

The Working Group believes that the number of political prisoners in Azerbaijan is even greater. The repressive atmosphere forces many not to publicize their case.

The Working Group includes more than 10 civil society activists, including human rights defenders Intigam Aliyev, Anar Mammadli, investigative journalist Khadija Ismailova, and others. - 06D-
