There is no evidence against Farid Safarli, said the Iranian lawyer – D.Askerova
Baku/10.08.23/Turan: There is no evidence against Farid Safarli, accused in Iran of "intent of espionage", said an Iranian lawyer brought by Farid's mother. The defender met with Safarli and the judge, Dilara Askerova, the young man's mother, who spoke to her son by phone on August 9, told Turan news agency. She noted that her son is being held in the Gum city prison.
"The lawyer studied the case materials and informed me that there is no evidence against him. The girl, an acquaintance of Farid, also did not testify against him. On the contrary, she positively characterized Farid, said that she would never believe that he had such intentions and she did not notice anything suspicious about him," Askerova said.
According to her, there will be no more court sessions in Safarli's case and the judge will announce the verdict himself and send it to the young man by mail. However, the date of the court's decision is unknown.
At the last hearing, Safarli asked the judge to present the evidence of his espionage, and the judge said that he would state his conclusion in the verdict. At the same time, the judge said that he "suspects" that Safarli had "intentions to commit espionage," but "for some reason could not carry it out." Askerova also said that her son underwent appendicitis surgery. "It turns out that Farid became ill and had an appendicitis operation," Askerova said. Safarli said that the operation and care for him was at a very good level, Askerova noted.
Askerova does not believe that the court will acquit her son, so she calls on the Azerbaijani authorities to discuss the fate of her son at diplomatic talks and achieve his release.
Farid Safarli, who is studying in Germany, went to Iran in February this year to meet a girl they met while studying together at the university. Since March 4, Safarli has stopped contacting. And only after almost 3 months it became known that a lawsuiot was brought against him in Iran on charges of espionage, which was already reclassified as "intent of espionage" during the trial. ---03B06----

Baku, often called the "Caucasian Dubai," is increasingly known for systematic violations of residents' housing rights. During urban renovations and the construction of elegant new buildings, thousands of families in Azerbaijan’s capital have been unlawfully deprived of their homes. Many, recognizing the futility of resistance, settle for inadequate monetary compensation for their irreplaceable property. A minority, placing faith in the Housing Code, demand fair compensation from construction companies but often lose everything—both their homes and any form of recompense.
