Trial in the case of the demonstrators on July 14-15, 2020
Baku/05.05.21/Turan: Trial in the case of a group of activists arrested for participating in a street demonstration in support of the army on July 14-15, 2020, continued today in the Baku Court of Appeal, chaired by the judge of the Sabail district, Agamaly Gafarov. There are 36 accused in this case, who are divided into three groups of 12 people each.
At today's trial, the case of a group of members of the Popular Front Party (PFPA) - Mamed Ibrahim, Fuad Gahramanli, Ayaz Maharramli and Bakhtiyar Imanov, as well as two members of the Muslim Unity Movement and six other persons was considered. All the accused are at large under police supervision. According to Gahramanli, eight witnesses and two victims were questioned at the trial.
“The testimony of witnesses and victims again revealed the falsification of the charges. One of the witnesses said that in the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Combating Organized Crime he was forced to testify against Fuad Gahramanli and Asif Yusifli. However, the witness refused. Most of the other witnesses reported that while they were under administrative arrest they were under pressure.
Some of the witnesses said that they were at the rally in support of the army together with Asif Yusifli, but only chanted slogans demanding the liberation of the occupied territories. They also testified that there were no calls from the accused to seize the parliament building and AzTV. In turn, the victims said that there are no complaints against the accused, and they do not know them. Thus, the trial once again showed that the indictment is not based on specific facts and evidence,” Gahramanli said.
The court granted the motion to summon additional witnesses proposed by the defense and the trial will continue on May 19. The defendants are accused of violating public order, damage to property and violence against government officials.
* On the evening of July 14, a spontaneous manifestation of many thousands began in Baku. The participants demanded to start a war for the liberation of Karabakh. The procession lasted all night and ended only early in the morning of 15 July. Part of the protesters entered the parliament building and damaged the premises. -03D06-
