Baku/23.02.21/Turan: The day before, a preparatory meeting was held in the Sabail District Court of Baku, chaired by Azer Tagiyev, on the case of the bodyguard on a voluntary basis of the chairman of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), Ruslan Amirov.
The substantive hearing is scheduled for March 3.
A criminal case against him was initiated under Article 5 of the Criminal Code and for the period of the investigation he was transferred under police supervision. Amirov was brought to the investigation in connection with the events of July 14-15, 2020, when a demonstration took place in Baku in support of the army, some of which later entered the parliament building.
Amirov was charged under articles of the Criminal Code 186.2.1 (Intentional destruction or damage to property with causing damage on a large scale), 186.2.2 (the same actions that entailed serious consequences), 233 (Organization of violation of public order), 315 (Resistance or use of violence in against a representative of the authorities), 127.2 Intentional infliction of less serious harm to health).
Amirov told Turan that he participated in a peaceful action, but did not commit any illegal actions.
“The criminal case against me is political. I did not commit illegal actions, but participated in the action to support the Azerbaijani army,” Amirov said.
Lawyer Bahruz Bayramov also stated that there is no evidence of Amirov's guilt in the criminal case.
Earlier, the PFPA reported that 45 activists were detained in connection with the rally on July 14-15, including 15 were arrested in an administrative manner, criminal charges were brought against 16, and 14 were interrogated as witnesses.
Those arrested on criminal charges were subsequently placed under police surveillance and released from custody. -03В06-
