Two Azerbaijani children repatriated from Iraq
Baku/25.05.22/Turan: Two children held in a correctional facility in Iraq were repatriated to their homeland after their Azerbaijani citizenship was established.
They were brought to Baku on May 25, 2022 via Baghdad-Istanbul-Baku route, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry's Press Service reported. According to the Ministry, the repatriation became possible by step-by-step measures of the Azerbaijani government. Thus, the citizenship of the children was established first. Then, the Azerbaijani Embassy in Iraq provided them with a travel document and air tickets.
In turn, the Consulate General in Istanbul facilitated the children's quick passage to the airport. Upon arrival in Azerbaijan, the returnees underwent a necessary medical examination and were placed in reintegration and rehabilitation facilities. Once the necessary procedures are completed, the children will be handed over to their relatives.
The number of repatriated Azerbaijanis from Iraq reached 290, including 288 children and two women, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.-06B-
