Two meteorological stations of the US company installed in Azerbaijan
Baku/10.03.21/Turan: On March 9, the US Ambassador to Azerbaijan Lee Litzenberger and the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan Mukhtar Babayev took part in the opening of a meteorological station in the village of Melkhem, Shamakhi region.
The meteorological station was built jointly with the American meteotechnology company Baron Weather, according to the Facebook page of the US Embassy in Azerbaijan.
The US Embassy stressed that "This partnership is another excellent example of how economic cooperation between the United States and Azerbaijan benefits both countries."
Ambassador Litzenberger endorsed the initiative to address the challenges posed by climate change. “As in the US, the regions of Azerbaijan have great economic potential. We are proud of the role that rural people play in the economies of both countries! he noted.
According to the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, within the framework of state investment programs, it purchased two latest generation Doppler weather radars from the leading manufacturer of meteorological radars BARON. “In general, over the past 2 years, 25 hydrological, 4 marine and 5 automated air quality monitoring stations have been installed in Azerbaijan in order to modernize hydrometeorological services, which made it possible to raise hydrometeorological services to a qualitatively new level and reduced vulnerability to the impact of climate change,” it was reported.
The Ministry of Ecology also noted that the installation of early warning systems continues in the country. So, on March 9, two such systems were put into operation in Shemakha and Goygol districts.
