Two Police Officers in Mingachevir Punished Because of B. Hajiyev"s Death
In connection with the death of 27-year-old Bahruz Hajiyev in Mingachevir City Police Department on August 20, two officers of the Interior have been punished.
According to the Interior Ministry and Prosecutor General's Office, the investigation found that the security officer of the Criminal Investigation at the Mingachevir police Senior Lieutenant Shahlar Shahlarzadeh, violating the professional requirements for keeping suspects in custody, did not provide Hajiyev's safety, which "entailed grave consequences."
By the order of the Minister of Internal Affairs Ramil Usubov Shahlarzadeh was fired from the Interior Ministry.
In addition, the head of the Mingachevir City Police Department Colonel Alesker Badalov was severely reprimanded for the wrong organization of work for the detention of persons suspected of committing a crime.
The investigation in connection with the events in Mingachevir is "under the control of the President of Azerbaijan."
Hajiyev's death in Mingachevir Police agitated the population. Many people do not believe in the version of the law enforcement agencies that Hajiyev threw himself from the window of the police department and believe that the real cause of the death was torture.
On August 22 a protest was held in the city. Police broke it up, detaining 21 people. -06D--
