Updated list of political prisoners in Azerbaijan from two human rights groups
Baku/27.02.23/Turan: On 27 February the "Freedom to Political Prisoners Union of Azerbaijan" published an updated list of political prisoners in Azerbaijan.
According to the list, there are currently 93 political prisoners in Azerbaijan.
They are divided into 7 groups:
Group 1 - journalists and bloggers (6 persons);
Group 2 - members of opposition parties and movements (6 persons);
Group 3 - political emigrants deported from Germany (5 persons);
Group 4 group - religious activists (29 persons);
Group 5 - convicts of the Terter case (8 persons);
Group 6 - convicts of the Ganja case (26 persons);
Group 7 - convicts of the life imprisonment (13 persons).
The updated list of political prisoners was prepared by human rights activists, Leyla Yunus, director of the "Institute of Peace and Democracy", and Elshan Hasanov, head of the "Public Association Monitoring Center for Political Prisoners".
At that, the "Freedom of Political Prisoners Union of Azerbaijan" says that the list of political prisoners was prepared in accordance with "Resolution #1900 on Political Prisoners" adopted by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in October 2012.
The Azerbaijani authorities do not accept statements about the presence of political prisoners in the country as biased. Official Baku says that fundamental rights are fully ensured in the country and people are not persecuted on the basis of their will and beliefs.

In the last two days, a "news" story appeared on TikTok about a whale spotted on Baku's seaside boulevard. The most "observant" users posted videos, commenting on the size of the animal. Later, other "witnesses" claimed it wasn't a whale, but a shark. Even later, a version emerged suggesting it was a submarine.
