Vafa Nagi's protest in front of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Internal Affairs
Baku/19.06.20/Turan: On June 19 Vafa Nagi’s, a member of the municipal council of the village of Khol Garagashly of the Neftchala region, made an attempt to hold a single rally in front of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. However, she was detained by the police, put in a car and taken away. The girl was released near the metro station "January 20".
She told Turan that the facts she presented to law enforcement about the head of the municipal council are not being investigated. She has written more than 60 complaints to the head of the municipal council, but no action has been taken.
“There is corruption in the municipalities, but these facts are not being investigated. I demanded financial statements. Then blackmail me,” said Nagi. According to the activist, she was formally summoned to the regional department of the State Committee for Property Affairs, the district police departments and the State Security Service, but they did not conduct any investigation.
Because of her appeals to state bodies about corruption, Nagi is subjected to moral pressure. “They paste my photos around the village by signing them Lady Gaga. So they want to “dishonor me,” Nagi said. In turn, the head of the municipal council of the village of Khol Garaganshly, Alibala Salimov, did not agree with the accusations. He denies any involvement in the persecution of the girl and accuses Sami Nagi of “blackmailing”.
“She calls women into the pubs, rants about the equality of men and women, social equality. She says let women come to the pubs. Therefore, rural women hate her and are indignant, demanding an end to this,” Salimov said.
Regarding corruption allegations, Nagi demanded that he get financial statements for 2019, when she was not yet a member of the municipal council. “The accountant explained to her all the financial processes for 2019: how much money was received, where and how much was spent. She demanded a document from the accountant, but after the refusal, she began to resent. The fact is that at that time the girl was not a member of the municipal council. According to Salimov, inspections of various government agencies after Nagi's complaints did not reveal violations. — 21B06-
