U.S. Says Will 'Defend Every Inch Of NATO Territory' As Poland Reports Airspace Breach
Washington D.C./02.08.23/Turan: The Biden administration reiterated on Tuesday it would "continue to take NATO security very seriously" and that the U.S. will continue to work with its allies to "ensure that every square inch of NATO remains secure," as Pentagon spokesman General Pat Ryder put it, TURAN's Washington correspondent reports.
The move came as the Polish Defense Ministry claimed that two Belarusian military helicopters which were conducting training exercises near the border violated Poland’s airspace on August 1.
"There was a violation of Polish airspace..." the Polish Defense Ministry said in a statement, an allegation that Belarus later dismissed as "far-fetched."
Warsaw will send additional troops and military hardware to its eastern border.
State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller refused to comment on the matter when asked by TURAN's correspondent during his Tuesday daily briefing, saying that he had not seen the Polish Defence Ministry's statement but only unconfirmed morning reports.
