Emil Akhundov: Uncontrolled development and expansion of the Baku is a mistake
Baku/01.10.13/Turan : Preserving the historic appearance of the Baku- remains one of the most important tasks of the day, said at a press conference on the occasion of the World Day of the architect , the former chief architect of Baku, Emil Akhundov .
It is necessary to maintain the style, which was formed in the capital for decades. Therefore , uncontrolled construction of skyscrapers is unacceptable. The city authorities have to focus and direct the funds to maintain the overall style of the capital. New buildings must comply with the historical style of the city, he said.
"Ecology of Baku, air circulation is directly dependent on the Caspian Sea, so it is unacceptable to build high-rise buildings, and close the path for the movement of air, and in particular unacceptable is the construction of high-rise buildings near the sea," he stressed. Akhundov criticized the practice of extensions to the old buildings.
He called unreasonable ix-pointed star on the windows of the Palace of Happiness.
As for new buildings in the Icheri Sheher, it is a perversion of the style of the historic center. "There had been built many modern buildings, but there is not any more the Icheri Sheher itself," said the architect.
He also believes the best solution is not to expand the territory of the capital on the basis of the plan "Beyuk Baku" to Alat .
"Beyond the Absheron there is a different climate and a different landscape, and this geographical area is in need of a different style," he said , noting that for the preparation of a master plan is necessary to establish the institute.
Emil Akhundov condemned the fact that the Chief Executive of the country rebuild everything to their taste. To prevent this, it is necessary to create a unified architectural framework of the country.
Referring to the recent heavy rains which flooded the capital , the architect said that sewerage system of Baku requires a major overhaul. Numerous reports of the City to reconstruct it are unserious. -05C04-

In a world increasingly marred by the effects of climate change, art has emerged as an unexpected, yet powerful, platform for raising awareness and sparking conversations on environmental responsibility. One such endeavor is the exhibition "A Different Kind of Climate," currently on display at Kapellhaus with support from the Goethe-Institut. The timing of this exhibition is no coincidence, aligning with the upcoming COP29, the UN Climate Change Conference to be held in Baku from November 11 to 22. The exhibition seeks to engage audiences on pressing ecological issues, blending local and international perspectives.
