How to treat prisoners of war? Information war or barbarism?
Baku/03.10.22/Turan: Video footage in which the alleged Azerbaijani servicemen shot alleged provocateurs, thereby committing illegal actions against members of the Armenian armed formations, have appeared in social networks.
In this regard, the press service of the General Prosecutor's Office reported that the Military Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan is fully and comprehensively investigating the authenticity of the videos of this category, as well as the time and place where these videos were filmed, the identity of the servicemen displayed in them, as well as all other information important for establishing objective truth are fully and thoroughly investigated.
According to the results of the investigation, the measures provided for by law will be taken, the report says.
"We strongly condemn Armenia's attempts to mislead the international community and hide its responsibility by spreading unfounded statements," the press service of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said in a statement in connection with the Armenian Foreign Ministry's statement on war crimes.
Political commentator Elhan Shahinoglu comments on this situation in the "Difficult Question" program.
According to him, before drawing any conclusions, one should still wait for the results of the Military Prosecutor's Office. At the same time, he noted that it is impossible to lose the information war.
"If these video frames are fake, then they are thrown into the Azerbaijani information space in order to weaken Azerbaijan's position in the international arena," he said. Shahinoglu noted one more point, which will not find a solution in any way.
“The military on the front line, on the line of contact, should not have smartphones. This is a simple truth, in war this happens, and on both sides. We have faced genocide more than once. Starting from the Khojaly genocide to Kalbajar. But, we did not come across such video frames. Perhaps they are, but the Armenians hide them.
The Armenians are trying to use it. Where only they did not address them with complaints about this. But we also have arguments. We can put Khojaly and other genocides on the agenda,” Shahinoglu said.
He also noted that Toivo Klaar, EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus, tweeted on October 2 calling for an investigation into alleged war crimes depicted in videos circulated on social media. The next day, he publıshed a similar tweet in connection with the personnel he received from the Azerbaijani side.
“The question arises why the Azerbaijani side has not yet distributed footage of the atrocities of the Armenians?” the political scientist asks.
