Azerbaijan and Belarus Strengthen Healthcare Ties

On August 15, Aztelecom, Azerbaijan's state telecommunications provider under the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, raised its tariffs for gigabit passive optical network (GPON) services despite an ongoing antimonopoly investigation. The revised prices, reflecting a significant increase in the minimum internet speed offered, have drawn close scrutiny from both consumers and regulatory authorities.

In the first seven months of 2024, Azerbaijan's legumes and grain production experienced a modest increase, according to recent data from the State Statistics Committee. As of August 1, 2024, the total harvest of grain and leguminous crops, including corn, reached 2.935 million tons, reflecting a 1.2% rise from the previous year.

Azerbaijan, traditionally known for its oil and gas exports, has made a strategic shift towards green energy as part of its commitment to diversify its energy portfolio and align with global sustainability goals. The government is focusing on alternative energy sources while conserving traditional fuels such as fuel oil and natural gas used in power plants.

Azerbaijan's Minister of Agriculture, Majnun Mammadov, met with the leadership of the Azerbaijan Cotton Producers Association on August 19 in an attempt to address the pressing issues facing the country’s cotton sector. The meeting, which included senior officials from the ministry, served as a platform for dialogue on the current state of cotton farming, a key agricultural sector with deeply rooted traditions in the republic.
