Azerbaijan Introduces System of Patenting Qualified Migrant Workers
Only about 7% of migrant workers are highly-skilled personnel, which creates the need to protect the national labor market and to promote the engagement of only highly qualified personnel, the Minister of Labor and Social Protection of Population Salim Muslimov told the media.
According to him, in this connection, his department in conjunction with the State Migration Service has developed a proposal to establish a mechanism of patenting in order to effectively attract highly qualified personnel.
In January-June, according to the latest official data, the Ministry of Labor was requested for work permits by 9,357 workers (+11.8% to July 1 of the previous year).
"Proposals on the need of patenting are negotiable, and then they will be submitted to the head of state," the Minister said, stressing that preference will be given to local specialists, and those from overseas will be involved in the industries, where there is a shortage of domestic staff. --17D-

Azerbaijan's financial standing continues to strengthen as the country's foreign currency reserves have surged to $71 billion as of January 1, 2025, according to the Ministry of Finance. This figure, which includes reserves held by the State Oil Fund of Azerbaijan (SOFAZ) and the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA), far exceeds the nation's external debt, which stands at a fraction of its reserves, specifically nearly 14 times less. This robust reserve position reflects Azerbaijan's fiscal stability and the government’s strategic economic management.
