Baku hosts seminar on designing the further development of the agricultural sector
Today in Baku opened a two-day seminar of the International Fund for Agricultural Development of the United Nations (IFAD), devoted to designing a strategy for further development of the agricultural sector in Azerbaijan.
The seminar was attended by international experts and donors, civil society and government institutions interested in the development of the agricultural sector, the opening of new jobs and building strong rural communities.
Agriculture Minister Heydar Asadov noted that partnerships with IFAD since 1997 have a positive impact on the transformation of agriculture, improved business opportunities through the rehabilitation of the land reclamation and drainage networks, as well as the output of farmers to subsidized credit.
Currently, the Government of Azerbaijan has developed Agribusiness Development Strategy for the years 2014-2020, the priorities of which is to improve conditions in rural areas through the use of innovative solutions.
Regional Director of IFAD Bouzar Khalid said that the next stage of cooperation with Azerbaijan Fund is linked to the livestock sector.
To date, IFAD has carried out with the Government of Azerbaijan has several programs of a regional nature, the benefits of which benefited about 350,000 people. For these projects the Fund has disbursed loans totaling $ 67.4 million. --08C--
