Commissioning transport corridor North-South postponed
The protracted political component called "international transport corridor "North-South" is reanimated, Tehran said today (http://iran.ru/news/economics/93530/Iran_gotov_k_tranzitnym_perevozkam_gruzov_po_MTK_Sever_Yug) about Iran's readiness to implement transit.
As the CEO of Iranian railways Agaee Mohsen Purseyed said at the 60th meeting of the Council for Rail Transport of CIS in Astana, the case is for lowering the transportation tariffs.
Spokesman for CJSC Azerbaijan Railways, Nadir Azmammadov, commenting on the situation for Turan, said that when it comes to the project with the participation of Azerbaijan, $ 200 million (payment on our part - a tenth of the total cost) is not ready. The Iranian side, according to the obligations, must carry the railway line Qazvin - Rasht - Astara, Azerbaijan is to build the rail between the city of Astara in Iran and the Azerbaijani- Iranian border with a length of 8.5 km. In addition, the Azerbaijani side is to build 4 railway stations during each of 1,050 m and an elevated bridge with a length of 101 meters above the river Astarachay. The reconstruction of the existing railway in Azerbaijan has been completed, he said.
Turan’s attempts to contact during the day with the Iranian Embassy in Baku by phone 492 80 06 and 492 44 07 yielded no results. At the same time, Iranian media reported that Russia has undertaken the construction of the Iranian (350 km) section. If previously sounded were political statements of commissioning the object into operation no later than the end of this year, now the terms are relegated.
According to experts, the aim of the Russian Federation is access to the shores of the Persian Gulf and India. In the event that the project succeeds, reaching the design capacity, it will intensify trade relations of the littoral states with the Black Sea ports. The corridor will increase rail transportation between Europe, South Asia and the Middle East.
