Elman Rustamov to Retain Post of Head of CBA for 5 Years
The candidacy of 63-year-old Elman Rustamov has been again nominated for the post of Chairman of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA). It is the 5th consecutive five-year term.
The corresponding representation was made by the head of state in Parliament and will be considered on April 3. This was announced by MP Vahid Ahmedov.
Note that Rustamov played a key role in the recent devaluation of the national currency, when in just one day the mnat was devalued by 33.5% against the dollar and the euro.
However, on the eve of that Rustamov persuaded them all that devaluation will not happen and the cheapening of the manat will be gradual, not exceeding 10% by the end of the year.

Azerbaijan's financial standing continues to strengthen as the country's foreign currency reserves have surged to $71 billion as of January 1, 2025, according to the Ministry of Finance. This figure, which includes reserves held by the State Oil Fund of Azerbaijan (SOFAZ) and the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA), far exceeds the nation's external debt, which stands at a fraction of its reserves, specifically nearly 14 times less. This robust reserve position reflects Azerbaijan's fiscal stability and the government’s strategic economic management.
