Holcim (Azerbaijan) Deals with Waste Management
Holcim (Azerbaijan) from October of this year, plans to use waste as an alternative source of fuel in the cement manufacturing process.
The parent company in Switzerland has a technology of waste treat6ment (second hand car tires, waste oil) and is ready to apply it in Azerbaijan. For this purpose Holcim (Azerbaijan) held in Garadagh public hearings, which were provided with information about the process and its environmental and economic aspects. A specialist of the company Samir Agayev told Turan that tires are subject to waste treatment only if they are not suitable for secondary processing. In addition, the chemical composition of the emissions during the burning must comply with state regulations, which will be determined at a special testing.
With car tires a business can be done. Holcim (Azerbaijan) plans to buy them from citizens and businesses. There may also be situations where companies themselves will pay their disposal.
According to the forecasts of Holcim (Azerbaijan), waste tire cover approximately 12-15 % of the demand for fuel. Thereby using natural gas in cement production will be saved.
The production capacity of Holcim (Azerbaijan) is 1.7 million tons of cement per year. Holcim Group (Switzerland) owns 64% of its shares. - 08B-
